Absolute Wonder Woman #15 Ending Explained: Diana’s Final Choice — Does Bruce Wayne Survive?
On Christmas Eve, DC dropped Absolute Wonder Woman #15, unleashing the Absolute Universe’s first marquee team-up as Batman and Wonder Woman unite under fire. The alliance is anything but smooth, setting up a bruising fallout—here’s what went down.
DC dropped a little holiday chaos right before Christmas: Absolute Wonder Woman #15 landed on Christmas Eve and gave us the Absolute Universe’s first real team-up between Wonder Woman and Batman. If you’re expecting a clean, friendly crossover, not this universe. It gets messy fast.
Batman and Wonder Woman team up... and immediately almost end in murder
Diana, being Diana, talks Bruce into helping her chase the Mark of Hecate she sensed last issue, which leads them to Gotham. They find what they’re looking for, but it’s a setup engineered by corporate shark Veronica Cale and Jack Grimm — the Absolute Universe’s Joker.
Here’s the twisted part. The string of murders Diana was investigating? Those killers were harvesting body parts to build a Homunculus. Then Grimm figures out something worse: Diana herself might be some kind of Homunculus in this continuity. The ritual they walk in on isn’t about summoning a monster — it’s about hijacking her.
Before Bruce can growl a contingency plan, the spell hits. Wonder Woman goes full berserker with one goal: kill Batman. The only reason we didn’t end this crossover with a tragic obituary is a magic talisman Diana had already given Bruce. It keeps him breathing long enough for the spell to break. Not exactly a meet-cute.
When the dust (and snow) settles, Diana offers a truce. Bruce accepts it the only way he knows how: brooding, quiet, under falling snow. She also makes it clear she wants to reach out to this world’s Superman — someone she and Bruce have just learned about — to deal with a bigger problem brewing: the Absolute Justice League. Translation: she’s aiming to recruit Superman to stop whatever the League is becoming here, before it becomes unstoppable.
Side note for cover collectors: there’s a variant cover by Rachta Lin.
Where this is going next: Absolute Batman #16
The crossover isn’t done. Next up, Batman needs Diana’s help. Waylon’s transformation into Absolute Killer Croc has turned him into a ravenous horror whose constant hunger is literally torturing him, and nothing Bruce has tried is working. So he calls his new ally.
This is where the Absolute Universe takes another wild swing: the plan leans on Diana’s knowledge of magic and might require a trip to her home. Which, in this version, is Hell. Yes, Hell — that’s home base for Diana here. If anything’s going to save Waylon, it’s sorcery, not science.
