Hughie Campbell has been through it on The Boys.

Robin turned into roadkill by A-Train right in front of him, ugly family baggage, duped by a shapeshifter, and more blood baths than a haunted house. And yet, the universe still finds fresh ways to dunk on the guy: he apparently scrolled right past a giant clue back in season 3 that could have changed everything. Mild understatement: spoilers ahead for Gen V season 2.

The blink-and-you-miss-it clue

Roll back to The Boys season 3, episode 2. Hughie is digging through the Red River Institute archives, watching files fly by on a computer screen. For a split second, a profile labeled 'Marie M' flashes past. He does not click it. Fans, on a rewatch, definitely did.

'Odessa being scrolled past by Hughie sends me so bad, just flew past the answer 😭.'

Who 'Marie M' actually is

Gen V filled in that blank: 'Marie M' is Marie Moreau, played by Jaz Sinclair. She is not just another Red River kid; she is connected to Project Odessa, the same grim experiment pipeline tied to how Homelander came into existence. Yep, the word 'Odessa' is literally on screen while Hughie is cruising past the answer key.

  • What Hughie blew past: the Red River file for Marie Moreau, flagged under 'Odessa' — the program linked to Homelander's origin.
  • What that means now: Marie is a walking cheat code. Her blood manipulation can do the Victoria Neumann special (aka exploding heads), and she has stacked on super strength, serious healing, and, as of Gen V season 2, resurrection.
  • Power scale reality check: that combo puts Marie within striking distance of Homelander territory.
  • The painful what-if: if Hughie had paused on that file back in season 3, The Boys might have found their Homelander counterpunch a lot earlier — and maybe a lot of bodies never would have hit the floor.

Why this stings (especially for Hughie)

Given everything the guy has endured — dead girlfriend, family trauma, a supe literally wearing his face, and gallons of gore — of course he misses the one profile that could tilt the war. It is the most Hughie thing possible: the right answer was right there, and he kept scrolling.

What happens next

Marie popping up in The Boys season 5 feels very possible now, especially with Gen V actively tying threads back to the mothership. Gen V season 2 is airing on Prime Video right now. The Boys season 5 is expected in 2026. Moral of the story: maybe do not doomscroll past solutions when the fate of the world is at stake.
