Wizards of Waverly Place is rumored to be revived by the network.

Summary

  • Wizards of Waverly Place is one of the most popular Disney Channel classics.
  • The show's stars are said to be working on a sequel.
  • There have been no official announcements about the reboot.

Before the advent of Disney+, there was only Disney Channel, where all the popular shows for kids aired. The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Hannah Montana, Sonny with a Chance, and of course the High School Musical and Camp Rock franchises, which gave the world a generation of actors and musicians, all ran on the network. In that light, it is also fair to remember Wizards of Waverly Place.

Premiering in 2007, this silly sitcom about the Russo family trying to run a business and learn magic while adjusting to life among humans in New York was a fan favorite, beloved for its humor and compelling plot. Starring Selena Gomez, David Henrie and Jake T. Austin as the titular wizards-in-training, Wizards of Waverly Place ran for four seasons, with two movies made in between. And now, more than a decade after the last episode aired, the franchise is rumored to be getting a reboot.

Wizards of Waverly Place Sequel

Disney has reportedly ordered a pilot for a potential full-scale Wizards of Waverly Place reboot. The show's stars Selena Gomez and David Henrie are said to be executive producing the new project, with both reprising their roles for the pilot and Henrie staying in character for the rest of the story. Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele and Mimi Gianopulos are also said to be joining the cast. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas will serve as showrunners for the reboot.

Rumor has it that the sequel will follow David Henrie's character Justin after he gives up his magical powers in favor of Alex in order to live a normal life with his wife and kids. And the story will come full circle, as Justin will become a mentor to young wizards – especially now that an unknown youth shows up on his doorstep looking for training. Besides, the future of the magical world depends on Henrie's character. As a result, he will have to face his own past in order to save the future of others.

Disney hasn't backed up the rumors with any announcements yet, so it's too early to get your hopes up. But considering that both Selena Gomez and David Henrie are on board for the sequel, it won't be a total disappointment.
