A Fortnite Player Posted About Their Late Sister — Epic Games Responded With an In-Game Statue

Moments after the decision, gratitude gave way to resolve—and a pledge to pay it forward.
Every so often, this industry that churns out skins and battle passes does something unexpectedly human. Fortnite just slipped a small memorial into the game for a player’s late sister, and it all started with a rideable roly poly bug.
The quiet update, and a statue named Olive
The newest Fortnite update adds a little statue of one of those new roly poly bugs, with the name Olive etched into the base. You can find it near Foxy Floodgates, right by a Slurp truck. It’s simple, easy to miss, and very much the point.
The post that set this in motion
Back in late August, Reddit user lolwhoopsTavi shared a story on the Fortnite subreddit that hit a lot of people in the gut. Tavi lost their younger sister Olive in April. The day before they made the post would have been Olive’s 15th birthday. Tavi booted up Fortnite, found one of the new rideable roly poly bugs, and saw its pre-set name: Olive. They kept that bug with them for the entire match — even heading into the storm to stick together — and, after losing all morning, they won. It felt like a hello and a little bit of good luck from Olive.
If you missed it: Chapter 6 Season 4 added these friendly roly poly bugs you can ride around the map, and they all come with baked-in names. It’s a very Fortnite bit of weirdness: silly on its face, unexpectedly meaningful if the right name pops up.
The official Fortnite Team replied at the time to thank Tavi for sharing. Turns out that wasn’t the end of it.
Epic’s nod becomes in-game canon
With this latest patch, players woke up to that Olive statue in the world. Tavi posted again, saying they were stunned and grateful that Epic turned their moment into something permanent in-game. The statue is exactly what you think it is: a roly poly on a base, the name Olive carved into it, sitting out in the world like a bookmark for anyone who knows the story.
"I will forever cherish this."
The community showed up
Other players have been stopping by to pay respects. One brought virtual roses and snapped a pic. Another left a crown with a simple 'Sorry for your loss.' It’s small stuff, but it stacks up — exactly the kind of gentle, communal gesture live-service games are uniquely good at when they remember to be.
Where to find the Olive memorial
- Head to Foxy Floodgates
- Look for the Slurp truck nearby
- The Olive roly poly statue is placed close to that spot
Tavi wrapped their update with thanks to Fortnite and everyone who reached out. A roly poly with a randomly assigned name turned into something a lot more personal, and Epic actually met the moment. Not a big splashy event, just a quiet, thoughtful add. More of this, please.
