9-1-1 Buck & Tommy Fans, Brace Yourselves! There's a Reason the Couple Might Not Last
Sometimes life takes people in different directions.
Summary
- Buck and Tommy's storyline was one of the most exciting in Season 7.
- The two characters proved to be very different from the beginning.
- Their goals in life seem incompatible.
The seventh season of Ryan Murphy's hit procedural drama 9-1-1 was well-received by viewers for a number of reasons. First, viewers were happy to see the show, which originally aired on Fox and was canceled by the network after Season 6, picked up by ABC for Season 7. Then, of course, fans were excited to see the stories of their beloved characters continue to unfold.
Buck's arc in Season 7 was particularly exciting. For six seasons of 9-1-1, Buck was very unlucky in love and his every affair ended quickly. Even the girlfriends he seemed to have a serious relationship with didn't stay in his life for long. Maybe this is why many viewers wanted him to get in relationship with his best friend Eddie – after all, the two had a swoon-worthy affection for each other and shared a deep connection. But even though they didn't end up together in Season 7, Buck decided to explore the scope of his sexuality and began a romance with Tommy.
Naturally, 9-1-1 fans are rooting for the couple to be happy together – especially considering what they went through in Season 7. But there's a reason why Buck and Tommy won't be a couple for long.
Opposites Attract
Buck and Tommy got off to a rough start. Tommy was a proud gay man who had been out for a long time. And Buck had just begun to explore his sexuality, not even sure if he liked men or if he was just attracted to Tommy. This proved to be a complication in their relationship as Buck was still coming to terms with the idea of dating a man and was a little embarrassed about it.
This almost ruined the romance, but the two characters persevered and ended on a very optimistic note in the Season 7 finale. But that rough start highlighted how different Buck and Tommy are, that they have different values and want different things out of life. And there's one thing that could ultimately drive them apart.
To Each His Own
Buck, who doesn't really have a family except for his sister Maddie, probably wants a family and kids of his own. In fact, Eddie's son Chris may be one of the main reasons why Buck is so attached to his best friend. Meanwhile, Tommy doesn't seem like a person who is particularly baby crazy.
Tommy seems to enjoy his freedom and independence. He likes to do what he wants and live his life to the fullest. And he doesn't seem to want to put his life on hold for a long time to have kids. And as much as Buck and Tommy may love each other, they will eventually part because their lives are meant to go in different directions.
Hopefully that won't happen. But we have yet to see where Season 8 will take the two characters.
