8 Projects George RR Martin is Working on Instead of Winds of Winter
Will he finally finish this book or not?
It's hard to believe, but the last book in the famous fantasy saga A Song of Ice and Fire, A Dance with Dragons, came out 12 years ago! Since then, the legendary All-Father of Westeros and Essos, George R. R. Martin, has been tirelessly writing The Winds of Winter.
The reason for this is that Martin is an incredibly versatile creator who takes on many projects at once. Let's look at the upcoming projects he's working on instead of (or in addition to) writing The Winds of Winter.
8. Dark Winds
The WGA and SAG-AFTRA may have allowed Martin to step away from his myriad TV projects and give him time to write a novel, but once the Hollywood dispute is settled, the writer will have to return to one of the shows on which he serves as an executive producer. It's AMC's Dark Winds, about two Navajo police officers in the 1970s.
7. Wild Cards
Wild Cards is a superhero book anthology Martin co-edited that ran from 1987 to the present. NBCUniversal has ordered a TV adaptation of the book series, and Martin himself will likely be involved in some way.
6. Who Fears Death
Given that Martin has a development deal with HBO, he's probably more involved with this project than the previous two. Based on the novel of the same name by Nnedi Okorafor, the upcoming series will focus on post-apocalyptic Sudan and the struggle between light- and dark-skinned people.
5. In the Lost Lands
The short story In the Lost Lands was written in 1982, 14 years before the release of A Game of Thrones. The film adaptation, starring Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista, is scheduled for release in February 2024.
4. Tales of Dunk and Egg
After House of the Dragon, HBO has confirmed that they intend to adapt another GoT prequel, Tales of Dunk and Egg. The events take place 90 years before the main series and will focus on the story of the friendship between Ser Duncan the Tall and King Aegon V Targaryen.
3. Fire & Blood Volume 2
The source material for House of the Dragon is an excellent historiography of Westeros, but it didn't have time to cover the remaining 150 years before Robert's Rebellion. However, they that will be covered in the upcoming second volume.
2. House of the Dragon
While Martin is not as involved with the project as he was with GoT, he still serves as a creative consultant on the show.
1. Short films
Martin is executive producing two upcoming short films, Friends Forever and Ugly Chickens.
