Ah, summer. Hot days, holidays and nothing but clear blue skies and sunshine. Sort of. There are also those rainy days, kids off school and a fair few cries of 'I'm bored.'

The Goonies: An absolute classic. It has everything; comical villains, pirates, adventure, fighting the power, and the truffle shuffle.
The Karate Kid: Plenty of 80s nostalgia and action.
The message is family-friendly – and it's great for anyone who loves the modern sequel, Cobra Kai. Not sure about it as a summer movie? Then you've forgotten the crane kick on the Pacific coast.
Toy Story 4: What's not to love about this story. The characters are particularly well-rounded for an animated film, and it's got the feel-goods about it even when things are going slightly awry. It's a heart-warming tale of acceptance and, naturally, saving a fellow toy. And this one features a road trip so it's ideal for summer.
Up: Ok, Carl Fredrickson is in the autumn of his life – but this is an emotional rollercoaster that is full of bright colours, love and a sense of hope. Exciting and poignant, it encapsulates what summer should be.
It Takes Two: A 90s classic.
Loosely based on the story of the Princess and the Pauper, two twins discover they're sisters and set about getting their parents together. It's as cheesy as Cheetos, but you gotta love it.
The Muppet Movie: Everyone loves The Muppets. They are literally timeless, and this movie sees them on a road trip – which is just what you want from a summer movie. It's funny, endearing – and has a great soundtrack for you to sing along with.
The Sandlot: A movie about a group of kids and what they get up to in their summer holidays in the 60s – basically playing baseball.
This coming-of-age classic has nostalgia, sunshine and friendship. The perfect cocktail for a summer's evening.
Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown: The Peanuts gang are not as popular as they once were, but they're no less entertaining. This movie sees them off at summer camp and is a great chance for parents (of a certain age) to introduce their kids to some of the TV they watched as youngsters.
