7 Best Sitcoms Canceled Too Soon, According to Reddit
These stories were cut short too soon, and it's a shame.
It is no secret that TV shows are heavily dependent on ratings. The logic is simple — the more popular a project is, the longer it's on the air. By contrast, if a series doesn't have enough viewership, it'll be canceled no matter how great it is, according to its few devoted fans.
Here are seven sitcoms that were terminated prematurely.
-
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006–2007, 1 season)
This NBC series is a behind-the-scenes story of an eponymous fictional sketch comedy show, featuring a made-up NBS Channel crew and actors going about their personal and professional lives. Starring Matthew Perry, Sarah Paulson, and Simon Helberg, the show has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 74%.
-
Pushing Daisies (2007–2009, 2 seasons)
This fantasy/comedy/drama series revolves around a pastry chef, Ned, who has the ability to revive the dead, which he uses to solve crimes. But there's a catch — the dead can live only a minute, or else somebody dies. The ABC-produced sitcom stars Lee Pace and Kristin Chenoweth and has a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
-
Better Off Ted (2009–2010, 2 seasons)
Another ABC sitcom, it is a workplace satire about fictional and stereotypically corrupt corporation Veridian Dynamics, which stops at nothing to achieve its goals. The show centers on Ted Crisp, head of the Research and Development department, who also narrates the show. Portia de Rossi stars in it, and the rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 89%.
-
Happy Endings (2011–2013, 3 seasons)
Revolving around six friends from Chicago — Brad, Jane, Ales, Dave, Max and Penny — the show is seemingly similar to Friends. While it obviously doesn't make it there in terms of popularity, the ABC sitcom is still fun to watch. The Rotten Tomatoes score is 76%.
-
The Grinder (2015–2016, 1 season)
This Fox show follows Dean Sanderson, an actor who has just finished playing in a legal TV drama, as he comes back home to Boise, Idaho. Not having any education in law, Rob Lowe's character decides that his on-screen experience is enough to work at his family law firm. Rotten Tomatoes gives the comedy show a stunning 93% rating.
-
The Mick (2017–2018, 2 seasons)
Another sitcom by Fox, it revolves around Mackenzie 'Mickey' Molng, a happy-go-lucky woman who suddenly has to take care of her rich older sister's children while the woman is on the lam. It has a modest 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
-
American Vandal (2017–2018, 2 seasons)
This Netflix mockumentary follows the aftermath of a foul prank at an expensive high school — somebody has drawn penises all over 27 cars of the faculty. Season 2 has a different setting and plot but features the same main characters. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a remarkable 98% rating.
