Beware: reading this may make you cringe.

The 8-season journey of Elena Gilbert and the Salvatore brothers, as they dealt with their love triangle and the supernatural beings inhabiting Mystic Falls, was undoubtedly entertaining. However, any fan of The Vampire Diaries would agree that some moments were so cringe and cheesy that they had to look away.

We've compiled a list of six such scenes.

Caroline Forbes singing to Matt Donovan (The House Guest S2E16)

One scene viewers found hard to keep a straight face through was when Caroline sang The Bangles' Eternal Flame for Matt in front of a large audience. Though The Vampire Diaries is far from a musical, Candice King can sing, so the creators included this random performance, leaving the audience cringing. Fans were also puzzled by Caroline going so overboard for Matt.

'I always forget that scene until I rewatch it. I think my brain blocks it out because it's so cringey,' a fan commented on the scene.

Elena doing a keg stand (The Rager S4E3)

Fans unanimously agree that some of the cheesiest moments in The Vampire Diaries involve Elena at parties. She often behaves in forced and awkward ways, such as yelling, raising her arms, or doing handstands on a beer keg—Spanish shame at its worst.

'Some of the party scenes are sooo bad,' a fan wrote on Reddit. 'They're always so forced and cringy, and no one acts like that.'

Jeremy Gilbert ripping off his shirt (A View to a Kill S4E12)

Fans can't help but cringe when Jeremy starts screaming and stripping in front of the other characters because of the Hunter's Mark. It occurs suddenly and dramatically in the middle of a fight between Stefan and Damon, causing viewers to feel embarrassed.

'When I tell you I spit everywhere out of disbelief and embarrassment as soon as the Jeremy scene happened,' a fan recalled.

Elena telling Stefan she was happy with Damon (Death and the Maiden S5E7)

A scene that induced both strong dislike and Spanish shame for fans was when Elena told Stefan she wanted him to be okay because she had been happy with Damon while he suffered all summer, drowning repeatedly. Fans feel Elena was unnecessarily cruel, essentially rubbing salt in Stefan's wounds. It's one of the hardest scenes to watch.

'I'm like are you trying to sound comforting to him or just subtly rubbing it in his face, it was so cringey,' a fan wrote about it on Reddit.

Damon saying ‘This is toxic!’ (While You Were Sleeping S5E16)

Damon's self-sabotaging speeches to Elena are always difficult to watch without cringing. He constantly finds reasons their relationship won't work but never acts on them. After the umpteenth time, the audience stopped taking it seriously, and when the 'this is toxic' speech happened, everyone just rolled their eyes.

'“We’re toxic” was just annoying as hell to me because he constantly said it. Literally, he would be like “we’re bad for each other.” Then they would have angry makeup sex,' a disgruntled fan commented.

Elena and Damon dancing for the last time (I'm Thinking Of You All The While S6E22)

Elena's farewell scene, where she shared one last dance with Damon, was meant to be romantic and beautiful, but for many fans, it felt too corny and cringe-worthy. The dance was oddly choreographed, the dancers were stiff, and the chemistry between them was off.

'That was so random and awkward and pointless,' a fan wrote.
