Despite being the protagonist and romantic hero of The Vampire Diaries, Damon was the most complex and morally grey character on the show. In fact, he was arguably the most questionable character in any young adult genre project. In Season 1 alone, he killed 18 people and abused many more, including some important characters. Yet, repeatedly, Stefan, Elena, and others forgave him for all the horrible things he did.

Some fans even suggest that The Vampire Diaries characters exhibited a strange Stockholm Syndrome-like behaviour when it came to Damon.

Breaking Jeremy Gilbert's neck

The fact that Damon snapped Jeremy's neck in front of Elena to get back at her for dumping him right after Katherine did the same thing speaks volumes. Damon has never been skilled at handling relationships, but this act is utterly unforgivable. Fans cannot understand how Elena could even have considered a relationship with him after that.

Abusing Caroline Forbes and Andie Star

According to fans, one of the most repulsive things Damon did on the show was not murder but the way he enslaved Caroline and Andie. He forced both women into relationships with him against their will and used them however he pleased without any hesitation.

Moreover, he never seemed to feel any remorse for these appalling actions.

Torturing Mason Lockwood

Redditors believe that Damon torturing Mason is one of the worst acts committed on The Vampire Diaries. Mason was a likeable character who had no intention of harming anyone until Damon tried to kill him. Many viewers wished Mason had remained on the show longer and are frustrated that none of the characters ever mentioned Damon torturing him.

Killing a pregnant woman

Fans struggle to comprehend how Damon could have killed the pregnant wife of his own nephew, Zach. Stefan managed to save the baby, but for many viewers, this horrific scene serves as the ultimate reminder that Damon would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.

Murdering Lexi Branson

Although Damon committed numerous murders, the one that most fans find absolutely reprehensible is the murder of Lexi Branson, Stefan's best friend. Damon killed her on Stefan's birthday just to prove that he was human himself.
