In the new Twilight series, what would you change, and what would you keep? Here's what fans think.

Ever since The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the Twilight universe might soon expand with a new Lionsgate TV series, Twilighters and Twihards have taken to social media to discuss the new show's prospects.

Although there has been a lot of excitement and anticipation, the consensus among the fandom is that the vampire saga's magical vibe could easily be ruined by the kinds of mistakes many reboots tend to make these days.

Here are the top five things fans say could easily ruin the upcoming Twilight series.

Changing the Protagonists

Many fans are worried that the show's creators will follow in the footsteps of other reboots and change the story and characters to bring them more in line with modern political correctness requirements. Showcasing healthy relationships and strong female characters is great, but that is not what Twilight was all about.

If you were to make Edward less obsessive, Bella more assertive, and their relationship less toxic, would it still be Twilight?

Different Setting

Part of Twilight's charm lies in its early 2000s setting. With its slightly cheesy vibe, quirky fashion, and great music, the franchise feels like a product of its time. Fans are concerned that if the new series is set in the 2020s to appeal to a younger audience, it might not work.

The Cullens' Background

The TV series actually has an opportunity to improve on the movies by giving enough attention to each character's backstory. Obviously, the franchise didn't have enough screen time to delve into that, but fans hope the show won't repeat the same mistake and will offer flashbacks focusing on the Cullens and how they became vampires. There's definitely solid gold there.

Midnight Sun

Since the end of the franchise, Stephenie Meyer has published a new book in the series, Midnight Sun. This novel retells the events of Twilight from the perspective of Edward Cullen.

Now, fans hope the show's creators don't ignore Midnight Sun. The consensus is that combining Twilight and Midnight Sun could make for an amazing first season.

Imprinting

If there's one thing Twilight fans want to erase from their minds, it's Jacob Black's imprinting on Bella and Edward's baby girl, Renesmee. Fans believe that the storyline of the protagonist's ex-boyfriend becoming the magical future groom of her infant child is better left out of the reboot.
