He wasn't a dream boyfriend after all.

It's been 25 years since Sex and the City premiered on HBO, but the story of Carrie Bradshaw and company is still the talk of the town today. In 2020, the franchise was extended into a spin-off series, And Just Like That…, which is due to have its second season premiere on June 22.

Aidan Shaw, one of Carrie's boyfriends from the original show, is expected to make a comeback in Season 2, becoming the main character's love interest once again. Of course, this makes old-time fans of the show excited, but was Aidan really that good as a romantic partner?

He might be a good match for Carrie, if only because his toxicity matches hers! Sometimes, however, Aidan is even worse than her, and here are five moments from Sex and the City to prove it.

  1. He slapped Carrie on the shoulder

Aidan criticized Carrie for smoking and insisted she quit. When she finally decided to resort to nicotine patches, she asked him to help her apply the adhesive, and Aidan forcefully slapped it onto her shoulder, making her stagger. Carrie called him out on that, and he smirked!

  1. He was judgemental about abortions

As Carrie's boyfriend, Aidain was awful to her friends. When Miranda wanted to have an abortion, he insensitively suggested she give the child to Charlotte who couldn't have her own kids. And then, he berated Carrie when he learned she had abortions.

  1. He let Carrie fall in the mud several times

Despite all the chemistry, Aidan and Carrie are obviously very different people. She isn't very outdoorsy and hates the countryside. Nevertheless, Aidan still took her to his country house, where she fell in the mud a few times — and he only gloated over it.

  1. He pushed Carrie to get married in Vegas

Even though Carrie made it clear she was not ready to tie the knot, Aidan insisted they get married. He was very assertive and not sorry about it at all — when Carrie complained she felt pushed to make this serious step, he blatantly admitted he did that because she needed to be pushed!

  1. He wanted Carrie to be something she's not

All the above-mentioned points amount to Aidan's desire to make Carrie a different person, someone she never wanted to be. In Sex and the City, he wanted her to stop smoking and eating fast food. He wanted them to get married and have kids, spending weekends in the country house, which she hated. Ultimately, it's a good thing the two separated, and Aidan went on to marry another woman and have three children with her.

Perhaps now that his dream of having a 'normal' married life has been satisfied, Aidan has reconsidered his ways and is ready to give Carrie some space in the upcoming season of And Just Like That…The first two episodes will premiere on HBO on June 22, 2023.
