Even despite not having much more of that way left.

While Ted Lasso, currently in its third and final season, remains a massively popular show, fans are starting to notice a few warning signs that indicate that the beloved series is going downhill. People have been hoping to see a satisfying finale, but with only four episodes left to air, it looks like Ted Lasso has completely lost its way now and won't have enough time to recover.

Here are the five troubling signs that are distressing fans right now.

It used to be more about soccer

Sure, sports was always but a vehicle for delivering important life messages in Ted Lasso, and the show always focused on personal drama of its characters. But still, back in Season 1, soccer was featured in the series as an actual activity that had to be played and coached. In the current season, soccer games and training feel like an afterthought rather than the show's focus.

The overarching plot is gone

Technically, it's still there, but just look at all the subplots that have flooded Season 3 so far! It is brimming with various individual arcs and twists that aren't all linked to an overarching story or a message of some sort. What's worse, new developments within these subplots tend to be driven by situational factors and therefore don't feel natural at all.

The plotlines are not coherent

Right now, Season 3 feels a mash of several separate shows — say, the main Ted Lasso show plus Nate's and Keeley's spin-offs — which got clumsily edited together for some reason. This season's numerous plotlines are just too divergent.

This is especially true for Keeley's storyline, as she seems to exist in a world of her own where the other characters only make occasional appearances.

New episodes feel like the old ones

In each new episode, the plot does not advance much further, the show's humor is getting repetitive, and the characters remain stagnant, at times even relapsing into their old shticks, as if the writers forget their earlier developments.

Season 3 lacks a clear direction

All these points seem to be the symptoms of one overarching issue — the showrunners have run out of ideas about what to do with the story and characters. Instead of focusing on one central story and carefully tying up the subplots to support it, the creators got bogged down in secondary plotlines, trying to pad the runtime with the characters' unnecessary stories and reusing the same humor.

Ultimately, they have failed to create a proper final arc for Ted and AFC Richmond, some kind of a once-in-a-lifetime challenge that would put their beliefs and values to the test and make them excel personally and professionally.

Sadly, it's very unlikely that these problems will be resolved in the remaining four episodes of Ted Lasso. But there's always hope.

The next episode of Ted Lasso Season 3 airs on May 10, 2023.
