Mystic Falls is a dangerous place. Populated by supernatural creatures that are all either there to feed on humans or bring death to each other. Despite being a coming-of-age show with a romantic focus, The Vampire Diaries has featured more deaths than many crime dramas.

Counting all the deaths on the show is no easy task, as many of them occurred in mass murders or off-screen. However, eagle-eyed fans have managed to keep track of the on-screen kills of at least the main characters. So, let's take a look at who the biggest killers in The Vampire Diaries are.

5. Caroline Forbes (19 Kills)

Caroline is a favourite among many fans. Viewers believe she was the best vampire on the show, as she could control her hunger and powers for the most part. Despite this, she still killed, particularly in Season 6 when she turned off her humanity. In just a few episodes, Caroline killed 16 people.

Her on-screen count is 19, but that number can be bumped up to 30 because when she stabbed a witch in Season 2, she killed her and 11 others connected to her.

One of the two antagonists on our list is Kai Parker, considered by many fans to be one of the best villains in the series. His path to power was paved with the bodies of numerous people, including his own family members. His deadliest act was a curse that killed an entire coven.

Another villain on the list is Klaus, who transitioned from being a clear antagonist to Caroline's love interest and a not-so-bad guy in The Originals. Damon was introduced as a bad boy, evident by his 18 kills in Season 1 alone. He killed many innocent people and important characters, never seeming to care about the damage he caused. However, when Damon became Elena's main love interest, his redemption arc began, and his kill count dropped significantly to three to five kills per season, many of which were in defence of himself and his loved ones.

The most prolific killer on The Vampire Diaries may surprise many casual viewers but not long-term fans. Stefan's arc has been one of the most complicated on the show. He started out as a good guy, refusing to feed on humans and only killing in self-defence or when punishing bad guys.
