Outlander, the historical drama based on the popular book series by Diana Gabaldon, has earned a massive following since its debut back in 2014.

However, as with any show with a passionate and vocal fan community, there are bound to be polarizing topics that ignite heated debates.

From controversial character arcs to unconvincing scenes, these five unpopular opinions continue to divide the show's fandom.

5. Jamie and Claire's Steamy Scenes Have Lost Their Spark

The once passionate and captivating intimate moments between Jamie and Claire are not what they used to be. In the earlier seasons, they had sizzling chemistry we all enjoyed watching. Now, however, the scenes have become drawn out and mechanical, adding little value to the plot and lacking the emotional depth that was once present.

4. Frank Deserves More Empathy

Frank often gets a lot of heat in the fandom, but he could be viewed in a different light. There's no doubt that Frank has said hurtful things and acted passive-aggressively towards Claire, and, of course, he's also responsible for his own pain - after all, it takes two to tango.

However, we can also recognize that Frank tried his best to revive their love and raise a child that was not his own. Claire, on the other hand, gave him nothing but apathy in return, leaving him feeling emotionally neglected.

3. Laoghaire MacKenzie Can Still Find Redemption

Laoghaire's actions have been truly heinous, and there's no denying that. That said, it's also important to consider the views of that time. If we look at things from her perspective, she's a young and immature woman who lives in a world with limited options. So, when Jamie shows her affection, she sees it as a chance at love and acts out of her feelings for him and naivety.

Yes, what Laoghaire did was selfish and inexcusable, but perhaps she deserves a second chance at making amends and finding redemption

2. Roger Is Not That Bad

Many fans have accused Roger of being a misogynist and questioned his treatment of Brianna, and rightfully so. But some might argue it's not completely fair to judge him too harshly by today's standards. After all, he's also a product of his time, and back then, his views on marriage were considered admirable.

While he may not have been flawless, and his behavior on the show doesn't exactly make him overly likable, it's worth acknowledging his growth and development as a character.

1. Jamie and Claire's Relationship Is Problematic

Jamie and Claire's love story is one of the central themes of the show, no doubt. But while many of us adore their epic romance, there's no denying that their relationship can be quite problematic.

It's clear that the two fight for what they believe is right and do the best they can in very complex situations. However, they always find themselves in trouble, seeking out chaos and selfishly putting others around them in danger.
