5 TV Shows You're Not Watching (But Should Be, According to Reddit)
These shows deserve more attention and fan love.
With the dizzying number of formulaic shows coming out one after another, fans tend to overlook some truly compelling stories. Now, however, the TV industry is in the doldrums due to ongoing writers' and actors' strikes, and this may be just the right time to check out some lesser-known series that went largely unnoticed by the public for one reason or another.
Recently, fans over on Reddit shared their favorite shows that didn't generate much buzz when they came out. And it's a great shame because the following five are definitely worth your time!
5. The Leftovers (2014, 3 seasons, rated 91%)
While The Leftovers is no less thought-provoking than, say, Lost or Breaking Bad, it failed to reach out to a wider audience.
The series follows the mysterious disappearance of 2% of the world's population and the consequences for the inhabitants of small American towns. With the themes of existentialism and religion at its center, The Leftovers has obvious parallels to Lost and will surely appeal to all fans of mystical dramas.
4. Mrs. Davis (2023, 1 season, rated 92%)
The recently released Mrs. Davis hasn't attracted much attention from viewers, which we think is just disappointing. Telling the story of a nun who vows to stop a dangerous artificial intelligence and ultimately find the Holy Grail, the show is cleverly satirical and juggles many pop-culture clichés, conspiracy theories, and profound religious questions.
3. Warrior (2019, 3 seasons, rated 93%)
Although the script was originally developed by Bruce Lee himself, too few people seem to know about the show. Warrior centers on a confrontation between the Tongs, Chinese mob gangs in 1870s San Francisco, and Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy caught in the crossfire.
The series' biggest highlight is how it blends elements of Hong Kong martial arts action movies, Westerns, and police procedurals.
2. Mr. Inbetween (2018, 3 seasons, rated 95%)
Australian TV series are often overlooked by international audiences, although many of them offer unique and compelling stories. One such example is the dark comedy Mr. Inbetween, following the everyday life of an experienced hitman who tries to be a good family man and friend outside of his job.
1. How To with John Wilson (2020, 3 seasons, rated 100%)
Not exactly a conventional TV series, HBO's How To with John Wilson is wonderfully funny in its original and engaging concept. In each episode, John Wilson asks a question about everyday things, like how to enjoy wine or how to be spontaneous, and comes up with the most hilarious and non-trivial answers.
