5 Things Original The Office Cast Said About a Reboot
The actors have different opinions, but many of them are willing to return.
The American television industry has finally come back to life. Along with news of the end of the five-month WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike came word that many projects were being revived along with new ones being developed.
But the real surprise was speculation that Greg Daniels is ready to begin working on a reboot of the cult sitcom The Office. And while we don't know if the same cast will return or if there will be an entirely new one, there's no doubt that some of the original characters will at least have a cameo. But are The Office actors themselves ready to return to the project?
5. Brian Baumgartner
The actor who portrayed lovable chili lover Kevin shared that he's very doubtful about the reboot.
'People who are asking for a reboot is always confusing to me. Because what are we rebooting?' He said.
Indeed, all the arcs have been completed and don't need to be revisited: Jim and Pam moved to Austin, Michael moved to Colorado, Kevin got fired and opened his own bar. Unless, of course, there will be brand new characters.
4. B. J. Novak
While Ryan's performer and series writer B. J. Novak indicated his willingness to return, he also expressed concerns about the motivation behind the reboot.
'I think it needs to be approached as an artistic decision, not as a financial decision,' he told Deadline. 'I worry that there's so much financial pressure, understandably, to mine this precious metal in the ground called The Office reboot.'
3. Mindy Kaling
Kaling, who wrote several episodes and played Kelly, was thrilled with the opportunity.
'If Greg Daniels was in charge of it, I would be excited and supportive and try to help in any way I could. It had to be the right person steering the ship,' she said. Now that Daniels has been tapped as showrunner, Kaling is sure to return to the project.
2. Rainn Wilson
The opposite view to Baumgartner's is held by a great performer of the equally great Dwight.
'It's funny, I hear things like, "We can't do anything because we ended this show perfectly, and we don't wanna do anything else." But then, someone will send some idea that's just preposterous and I don't know what to think.'
1. John Krasinski
'The Office was absolutely everything to me... I'm pretty sure at the end of my career I'll still be known for Jim. That was my first experience with Hollywood. It was the first creative family I've ever had,' Krasinski shared.
Well, it looks like the announcement of Jim's appearance is only a matter of time!
