5 Reasons We're Still Watching Young Sheldon (Despite The Show Slowly Becoming a Mess)
The show is on a steady decline, but we can't help staying along for the ride.
Young Sheldon may have started off with a bang, but after 6 seasons, the Big Bang Theory prequel has lost all of its hype, and has slowly lost popularity over plot holes, Sheldon's character being too dislikable, and the show's direction to darker, more mature storylines that don't align with how it all began.
We know what went wrong, but the big question is, 'Why are we still watching?'
We managed to find a few reasons we're still hanging on to the boy-genius and his dysfunctional family, despite the mess it has become:
It's super relatable:
Sheldon may be very different from us, but the rest of his family and their struggles are all too relatable. The series has covered sibling bonds and rivalries, coming-of-age, love, infidelity and chaotic family dynamics; most viewers have experienced at least one of these themselves, and enjoy seeing it on screen.
Individual characters:
Sheldon may be the star of the show, but other characters have captured our attention, and we've become too invested in them to stop watching. We want to see more of MeeMaw's wild antics, follow George Jnr's journey as he steps up to be a father, and get to know more about Missy as she navigates teenage rebellion.
Easy to watch:
Much like The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon is easy to watch and keep up with. It is a show that doesn't command attention, and missing a few minutes or even a few episodes would not have a huge impact on our understanding of the plot. It's a show we can tune in to at any time, and pick up where we left off.
Big Bang Theory nostalgia:
With the iconic Big Bang Theory having come to an end, Young Sheldon is all that fans have left, and albeit very different from the parent show, it still offers fans a piece of the quirky genius that many have come to know and love.
Young Sheldon reveals important details about Sheldon's childhood, and many Big Bang fans have stuck around to get to know their favorite character and enjoy the sense of nostalgia that comes with it.
The drama:
The series started off light-hearted and comedic but evolved to focus more on drama and mature issues. Many fans don't enjoy this side of the show, but others are drawn to the more somber and emotional storyline, although it is often too heavy for a family show. Fans know the darker parts of the storyline from The Big Bang Theory and are sticking around because they want to see it play out.
