The 17-year-old performer from Vancouver, Canada, had a good chance at making it to the Top 8.

On 1 May, a new episode of American Idol aired, featuring not only the contestants' performances but also a competition among the judges. Each judge offered the aspiring artists three songs to choose from, and the judge whose songs got selected the most won and got to save one of the lowest-rated contestants from being eliminated by popular vote. In the end, Katy Perry triumphed in the showdown of the judges and got to decide who would be staying on despite failing to get enough votes.

Despite the disappointment, the show had to go on, which meant someone had to leave the competition. Oliver, Marybeth, and Tyson found themselves in the bottom three, with the saving vote going to Oliver. However, there are strong arguments for why Tyson Venegas should have advanced to the Top 8.

5. Perfect song choice

Tyson selected Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi for his performance. While he could have opted for Adele or Bruno Mars, this song perfectly suited his angelic timbre. He poured his heart into the performance, creating a unique rendition. Perry, who suggested the song, stated it was precisely what she wanted to hear.

4. He hit all the notes

During Tyson's previous performance of Stevie Wonder's For Once in My Life, some suggested that he could have gone an octave higher for a flawless rendition.

However, this time, he demonstrated his growth, delivering a seamless performance showcasing his ability to hit the highest notes.

3. Great stage presence

Tyson knows how to captivate the audience and convey his emotions through music. His charm and charisma also contribute to his professional appeal.

2. He's also a great musician

Unfortunately, Tyson's recent song choices didn't fully showcase his abilities, as he is also an accomplished pianist. Given the opportunity, he might have impressed the judges and the audience even more.

1. He is a joy to watch

The first thing people pay attention to in a performance is whether it elicits an emotional response. Tyson is undeniably entertaining to watch, which is a clear indicator of a great artist.

Hopefully, the producers and judges will support Tyson in navigating the music industry. It would be a shame for such talent to drop off the radar now that he's been eliminated from American Idol. As for the show itself, the next episode will air on 7 May.
