The fans have only one question. Why did you wait so long to watch it?

Lucifer ran for six seasons, from 2016 to 2021, on two different networks. Throughout its up-and-down journey, the show garnered a huge following, but also received its fair share of criticism.

If bashing opinions are keeping you from watching Lucifer in 2023, fans of the show have one thing to say: any flaws Lucifer may have don't override how good the show is. In fact, it remains a favorite for many viewers. And here's why.

Idea

Lucifer's universe is the place where urban detective meets fantasy, and that's an explosive mixture. The protagonist is Lucifer Morningstar — literally the Devil who got tired of his Hell duties and decided to run a nightclub and occasionally consult on police cases involving the supernatural in Los Angeles instead.

If you think it sounds like Neil Gaiman's writing, that's because the character of Lucifer comes from his comic book series The Sandman. However, the show has a more grounded crime-solving concept that will resonate with any police procedural fan.

Cast

The core cast of Lucifer, including Tom Ellis as the protagonist and Lauren German as a homicide detective who partners with Lucifer in solving crimes, has been praised by fans for their brilliant performances. The acting of the cast playing the celestials (of course there are celestials in Lucifer) is also hilarious. They are clueless about Earth, which provides a lot of comic relief, and they have badass strength, which makes for great fights.

Tom Welling

Speaking of the cast of Lucifer, one of the reasons you might want to check out the show in 2023 is everyone's favorite Superman, Tom Welling, who plays a compelling supernatural character in Season 3 (we won't say much more to stay spoiler-free). If you miss Welling, this is a great chance to catch up with him.

Humor

We've already mentioned that the celestial characters provide great comic relief, but in fact, the whole tone of the series is lighthearted and fun. You are guaranteed to have a laugh or two in any given episode.

There are morals and darker storylines, but they are delivered in an easily digestible format.

Love Stories

Lucifer has a number of romantic storylines that are given in just the right amount. Though gripping, the relationships between the characters never get too focused and mushy, which helps to keep the focus on the mysteries and crime solving.
