Just hours before the premiere of Netflix's Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on May 4, fans of the Bridgerverse are not quite hyped for the prequel. And here's why.

They want Season 3 instead

Queen Charlotte is set to expand the Bridgerverse and even provide some additional information about the beloved Bridgerton characters post-Season 2. Fans are certainly excited about that, but there is one big problem — the spin-off pushes back Season 3 of the main show.

It's been over 13 months since Season 2 premiered, and the next chapter hasn't even been scheduled yet. Shonda Rhimes recently said that post-production for Season 3 is almost complete, so if not for the prequel, it's very likely that we would see the love story of Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton as early as June.

However, Queen Charlotte needs time to shine, so it looks like Season 3 will not be released until August at the earliest. And that's very disappointing, as most fans would prefer the spin-off to be a kind of intermission between seasons of the original series.

They are not Charlotte fans

With only two Bridgertons having found the love of their lives, we have six more siblings to get through, and that makes Queen Charlotte's backstory much less important. She is an exciting but secondary character, and people don't feel the same passion for her as they do for the Bridgertons. The fact that Charlotte is a creation of the show and not a character from the books doesn't help either.

They don't like prequels

In the age of remakes, reboots, and spin-offs, people have grown tired of all the second-hand content. Many treat prequels with suspicion, feeling that the creators are just cashing in on the original projects. Of course, Queen Charlotte may be different, but it has the one drawback of any prequel: we already know how the story ends.

The central romance confuses them

So far, the relationship between Queen Charlotte and King George has confused viewers. The older Charlotte seems to want to get rid of her husband but at the same time looks genuinely heartbroken by his condition.

There is hope that the prequel will help viewers see this love-hate relationship in a new light. But if the chemistry is off, many fans think it may just not work.

They are nervous about the 'love cures racism' trope

Queen Charlotte is set to dive into the controversial topic of multicultural London ton, and fans are not sure if the creators will be able to turn this trope into something worthwhile. Shonda Rhimes has a history of bringing inclusivity and important storylines to television in a truly wonderful way, but in Bridgerton, that whole line was a bit of a turn-off for many viewers.
