5 Reasons Ahsoka Bringing Back Anakin is the Best Worst Idea Ever
A central figure in Star Wars is problematic but adds depth to the endless struggle between good and evil.
Tomorrow marks the release of the first two episodes of Dave Filoni's Ahsoka. Since 2008, many fans have grown up with the character, gaining a deeper insight into the essence and philosophy of the galaxy far, far away.
However, Vader, who was responsible for the deaths of billions and the murder of children, redeemed himself, and the story in the prequels and Filoni's work made us sympathise with him even more. Still, fans are looking forward to Anakin's next appearance in Ahsoka - here's why it might be the best-worst idea ever.
5. Filoniverse Fans Would Be Flattered
Clone Wars and Rebels provided a better look at Anakin. They also brought life to the character through the introduction of Ahsoka, so for fans, this may prove to be enjoyable fanservice and a grateful nod to all the years together.
4. Christensen Has already Reprised the Role
Hayden Christensen has already reprised his iconic role in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The actor expressed great satisfaction with the nostalgic event, which better revealed the tragic story of the legendary Jedi, who became a pawn in the hands of both the Jedi and Palpatine. Therefore, the actor's return to his role in Ahsoka makes perfect sense.
3. Including Flashbacks with Anakin Adds Dimension to Ahsoka's Journey
Ahsoka's story is no less tragic than Anakin's. Despite their age difference, their dynamic was more like that of siblings. Together, they learned from their mistakes and helped each other better understand the nature of compassion and selflessness.
Thus, his corruption broke Ahsoka's heart, forever traumatising her and forcing her to question the core philosophy of the Jedi.
2. We Have yet to See Ahsoka Understand that Anakin's Returned to Light
The events of Ahsoka take place a few years after the collapse of the Empire. Yet, surprisingly, we've never seen Ahsoka's own reflection on the fact that her friend and teacher embraced the Light side again, finally restoring the prophesied balance to the galaxy.
1. Anakin's Redemption May Be Controversial, but It is Lucas' Original Vision
Not everyone agrees that the finale of Return of the Jedi was able to redeem Anakin after all the atrocities, so a more sympathetic portrayal might send the wrong message. Lucas always emphasised that this is the story of Anakin and his family, the story of a flawed man who, through the love of his son, came to recognise the true value of life. It's a tragic but cautionary tale, and Ahsoka can't help but be influenced by it.
