5 'Oldschool' Black Mirror Episodes That Still Able to Give You Nightmares

In just over a decade, Black Mirror has transformed from a brief sci-fi anthology on the UK's Channel 4 to a global phenomenon streaming on Netflix. Across 27 episodes and six seasons, Charlie Brooker's show has featured numerous stories dealing with various modern social issues that involve technology. Some episodes are comedic, some are satirical, some delve into science fiction, and some are pure nightmares.

Here are five episodes we don't recommend watching before bed if you want to avoid waking up in a cold sweat.

Be Right Back (S2E1)

Although this episode, starring Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleeson, doesn't have any jump scares, the concept of artificial intelligence imitating a deceased loved one is disturbing enough to keep you up at night. The episode has become even more eerie since similar real-life AI-powered products were unveiled to the public.

Playtest (S3E2)

Playtest was designed as a horror story, and it delivers. Everything about the story of a man playtesting a new augmented reality horror game is terrifying, from the creepy old mansion and gruesome monsters to the inability to trust what you see and the twisted ending.

White Bear (S2E2)

Imagine waking up in a place where everything and everyone is controlled by a strange signal, not remembering who you are, and being targeted by sadistic hunters. That is essentially the premise of White Bear. If you think the ending of this disturbing story will make you feel better, think again.

Black Museum (S4E6)

If there is one Black Mirror episode that fully illustrates the dangers of technology, it is the Season 4 finale. The episode is divided into three different stories, each of which is chilling in its own way. The stories are connected to the various technological exhibits of a remote Black Museum. The final twist alone is enough to scare the hell out of anyone.

White Christmas (Special)

The Christmas special, released between Seasons 2 and 3, is arguably the most nightmarish episode of the series. It explores three stories, each involving the technology of creating a conscious digital copy of a mind to perform various daily tasks. Its ending left quite an impact on many viewers.
