Stories that deserve a lot more attention.

2024 has been a great year for crime shows. Hits like Only Murders in the Building and True Detective have returned for new seasons. But that's just the tip of the iceberg: last year saw the release of about a hundred new shows in the genre.

1. The Marlow Murder Club, 2024-...

In The Marlow Murder Club, a retired archaeologist hears a gunshot and thinks there's been a murder. The police obviously don't believe her, so she enlists the help of a justice-obsessed minister's wife and a curious dog walker to get to the bottom of the case.

As is often the case, the trio's desire to get into town's secrets uncovers personal issues and past traumas. The first season found its audience, so the creators are already hard at work on the next season.

2. Get Millie Black, 2024-...

Get Millie Black is not only a new HBO series, but also the first television project by acclaimed author Marlon James, winner of the Booker Prize for his novel A Brief History of Seven Killings.

Get Millie Black will also be appreciated by those looking for an unusual setting and truly acute political topics in modern detective stories, such as the relationship between the metropolis and the former colony.

The series tells the story of a former Scotland Yard investigator who, after the death of her mother, returns to her native Jamaica and takes a job with the local police force. One of the woman's first cases is the disappearance of a young girl involving a powerful crime family.

3. Ludwig, 2024-...

John, nicknamed Ludwig, is an unsociable puzzle writer who decides to do something uncharacteristic of his shy nature. At the request of his sister-in-law, the man pretends to be his twin brother James, a police investigator who has disappeared without a trace.

Now John, in the image of James, must not only find out his brother's fate, but also fulfill his professional obligations.

Ludwig skillfully crosses puzzles of different formats and scales, from small codes to inter-generational family secrets, and it turns out to be more than successful.

4. Interior Chinatown, 2024

One day Willis witnesses a kidnapping in Chinatown, and the next day a charming investigator offers him the chance to find out what's going on.

An attempt to turn the criminal underground of his hometown upside down promises not only to solve the case, but also to help Willis understand his dark family past and finally become the protagonist, if only in his own life.

Interior Chinatown is a mix of action comedy and detective story, full of movie references and homages, which deals with the crisis of identity without forgetting to maintain a high level of intrigue.

5. Ellis, 2024-...

Ellis specializes in almost impossible cases: a big-city investigator comes to a small town and helps the local police find the culprits.

As is often the case in the provinces, the authorities can't stand visiting colleagues and refuse to help, and witnesses and even locals who are at least somewhat informed are afraid to say anything useful for fear of repeating the murdered person's fate.

Having seen a lot in her life, the woman has to get into trouble, sometimes using her powers of persuasion and, of course, working undercover.
