It's going to be explosive!

With the release of the official Outlander trailer, the seventh and penultimate season of the time-travelling historical drama moves a step closer. It's 2 minutes and 21 seconds of teasers and tasters for what is to come when the show finally airs on 16 June.

But what are the key takeaways from the trailer?

  1. Jamie's fate

The trailer starts and ends with Claire's words to Jamie, 'You'll come back to me. You always do.' Clearly, this is a major plot point for the season, but what does it mean? As the trailer ends, we see Jamie lying apparently lifeless on the battlefield. Will he really come back to Claire this time? We'll have to wait and see.

  1. Father against son

In one scene in the trailer, Jamie tells Lord John that he 'made a promise (to) never face my son across the barrel of a gun.' Other glimpses seem to suggest that this is a promise that's going to be hard to keep.

  1. There's a major fire

Early on, we see a building on fire with people trapped in it. Later, Claire screams, 'No! Don't do that!' as an as-yet-unknown person appears about to set fire to the room they're in.

Who is it? Why are they threatening it? And is this the start of the fire we saw previously in the trailer?

  1. A significant death occurs

Again, this happens early in the trailer, but the funeral procession we see taking place is certainly suggested to be after a battle. Claire is clearly deeply distressed as she sings Ave Maria. Could it be Jamie's body in the coffin? Or is he one of the unseen pallbearers? And what of Claire herself? We also catch a glimpse of her with a hangman's noose around her neck.

  1. Brianna has a baby

There's clearly a lot of anguish and fear throughout Outlander season 7. And, of course, the trailer hints at a fair amount of sex sprinkled throughout it too. But amid everything else that's going on, it looks like Brianna will finally give birth. And early indications are that she, Roger and their baby will enjoy a season of happiness living by the beach. Really? Or are we just being lulled into a false sense of security?
