5 Biggest Theories Polin Fans Have About Bridgerton Season 3

Shonda Rhimes recently revealed that filming and editing for Bridgerton Season 3 has wrapped, and fans are eager to finally dive into the love story of Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, aka Polin. For better or worse, not much is known about the plot of the upcoming season or how much the show will deviate from the book. So far, Penelope's arc has been changed quite a bit, and there seems to be no way for the season to follow Julia Quinn's novel verbatim.

With that in mind, here's what fans expect from Polin's love story in Season 3.

Theory 1: Colin will find out that Penelope heard his hurtful words at the beginning of the season and feel ashamed

Season 2 ended with heartbreak for Penelope. Not only did she have a fight with Eloise over Lady Whistledown, but she also heard Colin publicly disparage her as a potential romantic interest. Fans believe that Episode 1 of the upcoming season will begin with a fight between the main characters.

Colin will find out why Pen is angry and realize how hurtful his words were. He will then propose 'lessons' aimed at winning back Pen's friendship and rebuilding her reputation among his male friends.

Theory 2: Colin will sabotage Penelope's admirers

Fans think that even though Colin will help Pen get suitors, he will get jealous even before he connects the dots and realizes that he wants her for himself. Out of that jealousy, he will most likely sabotage the suitors' chances with Penelope, using the excuse that none of them are actually right for his friend.

Theory 3: The carriage scene from the book will be changed

In the novel, the carriage scene is the turning point of the story. When Colin finds himself alone with Pen, he kisses her, not yet realizing the feelings he has for her. This leads to a hot make-out session and an out-of-duty marriage proposal. In the book, Penelope accepts the proposal. But in the show, she will not.

At least, that's what fans think. This situation is too close to what happened with Marina Thompson in Season 1, and fans believe Pen won't want to trap Colin in a loveless marriage.

Theory 4: Penelope won't be revealed as Lady Whistledown to the ton

At this point, the Lady Whistledown drama seems impossible to resolve happily. Queen Charlotte and other families of the ton are too angry with the mysterious writer to believe that Pen's reputation won't be irrevocably damaged if her secret identity is revealed. Besides, if Lady Whistledown's arc ends in Season 3, the show will lose its main narrative tool. That's why fans think the ton won't find out who the gossip girl really is.

Theory 5: Eloise and Penelope will reconcile towards the end of the season

As the only one who knows that Pen is Lady Whistledown, Eloise will most likely be against Colin and Penelope's relationship at first, which will add some extra conflict. But eventually, some event (such as Cressida blackmailing Penelope) may put things into perspective for Eloise, and the two will most likely become friends again.
