5 Anime Arcs Netflix's One Piece Should Ignore in Season 2 and Beyond
There just isn't enough screen time for all the manga and anime storylines.
Netflix has certainly hit the jackpot with One Piece. The new series is riding a wave of popularity, and audiences are totally loving it. So it's a safe bet to assume it's going to run for many more seasons.
Season 2 is already in active development, and there is talk of ten more chapters. But even with 12 seasons, the show will have to trim its source material, Eiichiro Oda's iconic manga series and the anime series based on it.
Season 1 of the Netflix show only covered about 95 chapters and 44 anime episodes, while the manga consists of 1090 chapters and is still going strong. Meanwhile, the anime has been on the air since 1999 and has released over 1,000 episodes to date.
With so much source material, the live-action creators will have to be picky and omit or shorten some of the manga and anime arcs. Here are the five most skippable ones.
Thriller Bark Arc
The Straw Hats' confrontation with the shadowy warlord Gecko Moria on his haunted island takes up 48 chapters in the manga and 45 episodes in the anime. It's certainly entertaining, but it's not very important to the main plot and can thus be safely left out.
The only thing the creators would need to do is come up with a new way to introduce the character of Brook, the future member of the Straw Hat crew.
Long Ring Long Land Arc
Another story of little importance to the main plotline is when the Foxy Pirates challenge the protagonists to participate in a Davy Back Fight, a series of pirate sports games. The arc spans 19 manga chapters and 12 anime episodes and is neither here nor there as far as the main story.
Skypiea Arc
While the Skypiea Arc, aka the Sky Island Arc, runs for 66 manga chapters and 43 anime episodes, it can easily be shortened if not removed from the story altogether. For many fans, the three-way war between the Skypieans, Shandians, and Enel feels too drawn out.
Fish-Man Island Arc
Another long arc that can be greatly reduced is the Fish-Man Island arc, which runs for 51 chapters and episodes. The show creators will have to include this arc as it introduces some important characters like Shirahoshi and Jinbe, but they could easily fit it into just one episode.
Whisky Peak Arc & Little Garden Arc
While it is impossible to completely cut these two arcs because they establish important connections for the Straw Hats (Baroque Works, Vivi, Dorry, and Brogy), they can be combined and fit into one or two live-action episodes as opposed to the 24 manga chapters and 12 anime episodes.
