Prime Video subscribers are in for a treat.

2024 is shaping up to be an incredibly dry year for releases due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. We are already feeling the effects, as the entire film and TV industry is on hold, production on many major IPs has been canceled, and fall TV schedules are empty and disappointing.

But fortunately, this fall promises to be quite rich in feature movies and series. Amazon Prime Video subscribers in particular will be pleased to hear that the service has announced the upcoming release of some very intriguing projects as part of its Prime Premiere program, which allows its customers to see new movies in theaters for free.

4. Sitting in Bars with Cake

The list opens with a new project from filmmaker Trish Sie. Starring Yara Shahidi (Black-ish, The Sun Is Also a Star) and Odessa A'zion (Grand Army, Hellraiser), Sitting in Bars with Cake is the story of two 20-something friends who, after one of them is diagnosed with a terrible illness, decide to meet new people by literally sitting in bars with cake.

The movie will be released in theaters on September 6 and on Prime on September 8.

3. A Million Miles Away

Michael Peña has been to space before, starring in The Martian, but this time, the actor plays the biographical role of NASA astronaut José M. Hernández, the first person from a migrant family to go into space. It is an amazing story of a boy from a family of farmworkers who set his sights high toward the sky, and whose dreams were fulfilled.

A Million Miles Away opens in theaters on September 13 and will be released on Prime on September 15.

2. The Burial

Directed by Maggie Betts (Novitiate), this legal drama based on true events will tell the story of Jerry O'Keefe (Tommy Lee Jones), a bankrupt funeral home owner who hires enterprising attorney Willie E. Gary (Jamie Foxx) to sue his competitors. In the end, Gary was able to win an insane $500,000 for O'Keefe.

The movie will be released in theaters on October 11 and on Prime two days later on October 13.

1. Gen V

Perhaps the most anticipated release on Prime Video this fall is the spin-off of the cult anti-superhero series The Boys, created by Eric Kripke. The story will focus on Vaught's superhero academy, Godolkin University School, and delve deeper into the horrors of the superhero business.

The show will have a theatrical run, with the first two episodes airing on September 27. Gen V will premiere on Prime on September 29.
