2024 will delight fans of video games and animated series alike.

Animated adaptations are arguably more successful and entertaining than their live-action counterparts. That's not surprising, given that the former require much smaller budgets and the visual storytelling method allows for more creative expression.

On September 27, Netflix has organized a new showcase, DROP 01, to highlight upcoming animation series announcement. It looks like 2024 is going to be the year of animated masterpieces!

4. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was a phenomenon, thanks to the high-octane action, the groovy garage-rock tracks of Sex Bob-Omb, and the undeniable chemistry between Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

On November 17, Netflix will release an animated movie developed by Bryan Lee O'Malley, the original comic book writer himself. And if that hasn't caught your eye yet, you'll probably be intrigued by the fact that the original actors will be returning to voice the characters!

3. Masters of the Universe: Revolution

In the 21st century, the demand for Mattel's Masters of the Universe has only grown (not only because of the memes), as in 2018, Netflix has released an incredibly successful reboot centered around the adventures of She-Ra.

In 2021, however, it was all about He-Man, as Netflix, led by Kevin Smith, released a reboot of Masters of the Universe, Revelation. And now, three years later, a sequel called Revolution is coming to Netflix.

2. Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft

Tomb Raider is one of the most iconic video game franchises, a fascinating adventure story that revisionistically shifted the focus from male adventurers like Indiana Jones to an equally brave female archaeologist, Lara Croft.

The animated series will be faithful to the source material and serve as a link between the video game reboot, which ended in 2018, and the original game series, which began in 1996.

1. Devil May Cry

Equally popular is the Japanese video game franchise Devil May Cry, which centers on the charismatic half-demon Dante, his daily demon-killing missions, and his confrontation with his twin brother Vergil (yes, the characters are a nod to The Divine Comedy).

DMC has already been adapted into an anime, but with Netflix and Capcom working together for so long, we're in for an even more exciting story about a demon hunter in a red cape!
