4 Best Korean Superhero Dramas for MCU & DC Fatigue Relief
These are stories about people with gifts that many of us dream of – from telekinesis to enormous physical strength.
When we think of TV superheroes, the first things that come to mind are DC and Marvel series and movies. For a long time, Korean dramas had no trace of superheroes.
However, the situation changed in the 2010s – we offer you four series about characters with superpowers that are no worse than the Hollywood ones.
1. Awaken, 2020-2021
The Seoul police are on edge: a series of mysterious suicides of rich and influential people is happening in the capital. A special task force is formed to investigate, led by the brilliant captain Do Jung-woo, with FBI agent Jamie Leighton, a Korean who grew up in the US, playing the role of consultant.
Gradually, the police realize that they are dealing with murders committed with the help of paranormal forces, and the origins of this situation lie in the bloody events that took place at the White Night orphanage 28 years ago.
2. Moving, 2023-...
Gang-hoon, Hui-soo and Bong-seok attend the same high school. They are the children of secret agents who stopped being normal people in order to carry out a top secret mission. After the mission was completed, they were left behind.
After some time, the former agents had children who received the superpowers of their parents: Bong-seok can fly, Hui-soo can recover from injuries and traumas almost instantly, Gang-hoon is supernaturally strong and fast.
They do not tell anyone about their superpowers, because there will surely be people who want to use them for their own purposes. In the end, the teenagers have to come out of the shadows and unite against the powerful dark forces.
3. The Uncanny Counter, 2020-2023
On the outskirts of a small town, there is a small noodle shop that serves tasty ramen noodles. However, in addition to cooking, the noodle shop employees also perform other functions. They are hunters of evil spirits that have escaped from hell.
Each of the hunters has superpowers granted to them by the good spirits who guard the afterlife. Chef Chu Mae-ok can heal any wound, even a fatal one. Former policeman Ga Mo-tak is an incredibly strong martial artist. Do Ha-na can read people's memories and detect evil spirits.
The hunters are joined by So Mun, whose abilities are incredible – from super speed and psychokinesis to control over a special space, which gives him a huge advantage in the fight against evil spirits.
4. Strong Girl Bong-soon, 2017
Bong-soon comes from a family where all the women have been endowed with superhuman physical strength since ancient times. However, there is a rule – the power cannot be used for evil or self-interest. The violator loses her superpowers immediately.
So Bong-soon mostly gets into trouble with this power – especially since she has to hide it from others. Especially from the policeman Guk-doo, whom she has been in love with since high school.
But one day, Bong-soon can no longer stand the insolence of a gang of criminals. A coincidental witness is Min-hyuk, a young businessman who offers her a job as a bodyguard to protect himself from the blackmailers' threats.
