Some old concepts are reimagined and reintroduced in the show's upcoming season.

Although it was only launched in 2019, The Masked Singer has enjoyed a remarkable run on Fox, with biannual season releases. So far, nine seasons have been produced, with the tenth on its way.

The official premiere date is 10 September. However, the actual competition will not begin until 27 September.

If, for some reason, you're unfamiliar with TMS's premise, allow us to explain. The show features celebrity contestants disguised as various characters – these can be animals, objects, or even food items. They perform covers of famous songs in front of a live audience and a panel of judges. At the end of each episode, one artist is eliminated and must reveal their identity. This continues until only two contenders remain. That has been the format of The Masked Singer until now, but Season 10 will be making some changes.

Here are three key modifications the upcoming instalment will feature:

1. Fewer Contestants Split in Groups

The show's last two seasons were massive in that they featured over twenty contestants each. Consequently, judges had to eliminate two performers per episode, which many viewers found too sad. In season 10, The Masked Singer is returning to its original lineup of sixteen celebrities. These participants will be divided into three groups. Importantly, contenders will compete within their respective groups during Battle Royale episodes.

2. Wildcards

Among the sixteen contestants, there will be wildcard entrants, a tradition that dates back to Season 5. Each of the three groups will have a wildcard contestant introduced at some point to raise the stakes of the competition. Indeed, these wildcards could potentially disrupt the entire dynamics of season 10, making for exhilarating viewing.

3. The 'Ding Dong Keep It On' Bell

This feature was introduced in the ninth season of TMS. However, its role is being revamped for season 10: this bell can only be rung once per season during the Battle Royale episodes. For comparison, the rules in season 9 allowed panellists to use the bell to save three contestants, who would then face off against each other in a special episode.

By the sound of it, The Masked Singer's tenth season promises to be plenty entertaining to watch. We hope it lives up to expectations when it premieres on 10 September.
