3 Black Mirror Episodes You Can Skip (And No, It's Not Season 6 Ones)
What Black Mirror episode doesn't deserve to be a part of the iconic series?
Whether or not you liked Season 6 of Black Mirror, which landed on Netflix on June 15, you'll have to admit the new episodes weren't the worst of the British sci-fi anthology. Combing through fan discussions on social media, we found out which Black Mirror episodes fans wished they'd never seen.
If you're the rare person who's just hopping on the Black Mirror train in 2023, you might want to consider skipping these three stories.
The Waldo Moment (S2E3)
'There's a few episodes I don't love but the Waldo Moment is unwatchable for me.'
Although the first five episodes of Black Mirror are pure gold, the sixth has left many fans wondering why it was even included in the series. The story of a blue animated bear who becomes a popular parliamentary candidate is a political satire that explores the public's distrust of politicians in general and the popularity of flamboyant figures like Boris Johnson and Donald Trump.
But fans feel the satire is too on the nose. The episode lacks the subtlety and the emotional impact that made the previous episodes so good. Without making any particularly interesting points about politics, 'The Waldo Moment' is simply forgettable.
Crocodile (S4E3)
'Crocodile seemed more like an episode a big fan would direct on their own, like a parody.'
The Season 4 episode tells the story of a woman falling into a spiral of murder because of a technology that allows you to see a person's memories and use them as evidence. To cover up an unintentional crime, the protagonist kills again and again to avoid getting caught.
While the premise sounds interesting, many fans find the story unwatchable. The murders are graphic and gratuitous. The technology is unreliable and lame. The plot is unrelatable and far-fetched. And the ending is… disappointing.
Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (S5E3)
'In my opinion, Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too didn't feel like a real Black Mirror episode.'
The Season 5 finale disappointed many fans. Inviting Miley Cyrus to play a pop star in a satire of Disney movies was an inspired choice, but viewers felt that the story of two children working with a doll cloned from Cyrus' character to save her from money-hungry antagonists was just plain boring.
Unlike most Black Mirror stories that shock and make you think, this episode felt like a children's movie with the occasional swear word and happy ending — not the commentary we expect from the iconic anthology.
