15 Celebs Who Were Bullied in High School
Many of them were outcasts as children.
The Hunger Games star was an ugly duckling as a child. Because she had excess weight, Lawrence's classmates teased her, pushed her in line, and threw candy wrappers at her — so the future star didn't always get to eat her lunch in peace.
Jennifer was bullied a lot and had to change several schools. Today, her school enemies probably envy their classmate's success — especially since Lawrence topped the list of the highest-paid actresses, according to the Forbes ranking.
2. Miley Cyrus
The actress reveals that there was "The Anti-Miley Club" at her school: the big and mean girls who made fun of little Miley in every possible way. One day, the girl was locked in the bathroom and not allowed out all day. Miley was scrawny and short and couldn't stand up for herself then. Luckily, the Hollywood star now has bodyguards to protect her.
3. Victoria Beckham
The former Spice Girl, style icon, famous designer, and wife of footballer David Beckham also suffered a great deal during her high school years. Victoria was an outsider because her family was wealthy and the girl came to school in a posh limousine.
"Secondary school was hell," Victoria admitted, "Children picking things up out of the puddles and throwing them at me. I just stood there, on my own. I didn't have any friends. People would push me around, say they were going to beat me up."
Looking at this gorgeous woman, it's hard to believe she was called ugly at school. The girl was teased for being a "nerd" and wearing big round glasses. Kids would take the glasses and break them, and all the girls in the class shunned Charlize as they didn't want to be friends with her.
Fortunately, the bullying didn't last long: Charlize went to a ballet school when she was 13.
Christian Bale didn't become Batman right away: during his childhood years, he was kicked and punched by his classmates at high school. Christian was not always able to fight back, and as a result, he often ended up in the hospital. There's still a small scar under the actor's right eye — a reminder of the 10 years of hell!
During their visit to Australia, Prince William called his wife a "banana" — because Kate's bright yellow dress reminded him of one! It turns out, Kade had more offensive nicknames in the past. Even though Middleton went to the prestigious Marlborough College in Wiltshire, her classmates teased her and called her "Squeak" because she was shy.
The Duchess also says she got things stolen from her locker.
7. Demi Moore
Demi Moore had strabismus when she was a child, so her classmates at Fairfax High School in West Hollywood were always teasing the poor girl. Demi suffered through 10 years of school and dropped out in her senior year. She had two operations to correct her vision disorder and went to Europe to pursue her dreams and become a world-famous actress.
As a child, the future "sex expert" Sarah Jessica Parker was the object of constant ridicule from her classmates.
Kids teased the girl for her big nose (and even threatened to cut it off), skinny knees, and small eyes. When young Sarah Jessica complained to her mother, she simply said the girl would have to put up with it for the rest of her life. In fact, Sarah Jessica's nose and eyes still receive negative comments — but this does not make the actress any less attractive or popular.
Justin Timberlake had a hard time in high school because he and his classmates had different interests. "I grew up in Tennessee, and if you didn't play football, you were a sissy," the actor explains.
"I got slurs all the time because I was into music and art… I was an outcast in a lot of ways, but everything that you get picked on for or you feel makes you weird is essentially what's going to make you sexy as an adult."
10. Jessica Alba
School years were a tough ordeal for the actress. The girl was bullied so badly, her father had to walk her to school. "I'd eat my lunch in the nurse's office so I didn't have to sit with the other girls. Apart from my being mixed race, my parents didn't have money so I never had the cute clothes or the cool backpack," Jessica revealed in an interview.
11. Christina Hendricks
Mad Men star Christina Hendricks isn't fond of her high school years, especially those moments when she had to pick things up from her locker:
"We had a locker bay, and every time I went down there to get books out of my locker, people would sit on top and spit at me, so I had to have my locker moved because I couldn't go in there… I felt scared in high school," the actress confessed.
12. Kristen Stewart
The Twilight star dropped out of high school when she was 13: after seeing her in a movie, Kristen's classmates started making up offensive nicknames and gossiping behind her back. The actress says she "got a lot of flak" from people at school, even though most of them didn't even know her. In fact, Stewart felt she was much more mature and responsible than her classmates:
"Juggling work and school, and helping my mother; I've always had a lot of responsibility."
13. Lady Gaga
"Mother Monster" revealed she was thought to be an ugly duckling in high school. The singer said she tried her best to fit in but always got the jokes and nasty remarks from her classmates.
"I had a very big nose, very curly brown hair, and I was overweight. I got made fun of," says Lady Gaga. Well, those high school bullies must be green with envy now!
14. Megan Fox
Sexy Megan Fox had to face the envy of other girls in school. The actress said they threatened to beat her up, so she had to be friends with boys instead. This further annoyed the jealous classmates who didn't get to hang out with cool guys.
15. Sandra Bullock
Sandra was very impressionable as a kid, so it was hard for her to tolerate bullying at school. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Bullock said she still remembers the names of all the school bullies. After touring Europe with her mother, who was an opera singer, Sandra would come back and be teased by her classmates:
"I looked like a clown compared to the cool way the other students looked and dressed. So I got my ass whooped a little bit," the actress said.
