10+ Years Later, Here Are Minka Kelly's Unfiltered Thoughts on Taylor Kitsch Romance
Minka's memoir is out in less than a month; here are a few glimpses into what she has to say.
While Friday Night Lights never was outstandingly popular, it is an acclaimed sports drama known for its solid cast; it even won an Emmy for Outstanding Casting.
However, while actors performed to the best of their ability on the set, the drama going on behind the scenes sometimes matched what was happening on the screen.
For example, just like their characters, Minka Kelly (who played Lyla Garrity) and Taylor Kitsch (Tim Riggins) got into a relationship. They kept it secret while the show was on the air, but both confirmed it later.
However, given what eventually happened, they probably should have heeded the producer's warning not to get romantically involved with each other. Their romance was more dramatic than most on-screen love stories usually are, with the stars having a tumultuous on-again-off-again relationship for years before eventually separating for good.
Recently, Minka Kelly offered us a glimpse into that drama through some teasers for her memoir, Tell Me Everything, which is to be released on 2 May.
As Minka writes, 'Life became very difficult both on and off set whenever we broke… …On the days we had to work together and were broken up, he didn't want to be in the hair and makeup trailer at the same time I was. We couldn't ride in the van together from base camp to set for the same reason.'
She also regrets devoting all her time to Taylor and their relationship and never making friends with the other female cast members. The result was that she never had anybody to talk to whenever things with Taylor went sideways. And following their final separation, she got no support from the other actors.
By contrast, Taylor made friends with other cast members, shared his feelings with them and found plenty of comfort in his friends when things with Minka hit a rough patch and finally fell apart.
In her own words, 'My coworkers weren’t taking me out for drinks after work to mend my broken heart; they were taking him out.'
Now Minka finally gets to be more open and honest with others about her experiences than Taylor, whose side of their failed romance largely amounts to admitting that it happened.
